Moving Image e-Resources - a different perspective

Need a new perspective on a subject? Give yourself a break from print by exploring some of the moving image e-resources that the Library provides.

These cover many subjects and offer a different slant on events, from the written word. Material is copyright-cleared for educational purposes:
  • BoB (Box of Broadcasts) National - shared online streaming service for over 50 current and archived TV and radio channels 
  • Film and Sound Online - subject collections of film, video and sound material for downloading and use in learning, teaching and research
  • NewsFilm Online - 3,000 hours of TV news and cinema newsreels, from the ITN/Reuters archive, from the 1910s to the present day
  • News on Screen - database of 20th Century British cinema and newsreel releases (1910-1983), linked to 40,000 downloadable newsreels from the British Pathe collection
  • ScreenOnline - encyclopaedia of British film and TV with hundreds of hours of film and TV clips from the collections of the BFI (British Film Institute) National Archive
Databases which can be used to find details of relevant audiovisual material, include:
  • Find DVD - database of over 26,000 international audiovisual programmes either currently, or once, in distribution.  Includes DVDs, video tapes, slides, podcasts, CDs and websites
  • Moving Image Gateway - 1,000 websites relating to moving image and sound materials
  • TRILT (Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching) - programme guide to UK TV and radio broadcasts, and index to 450,000 hours of off-air TV and radio recorded since 1998
  • TVTip - index to the London region TVTimes magazine, from 1955-1985
  • This Week (1956-1992) - contextual information about the ITV current affairs series
