10 e-journals with the most article downloads in 2012

An interesting mix of science, chemistry, physics, international relations, economics, anthropology and theology e-journals comprises the 10 titles with the most article downloads so far, this year:
  • Nature
  • Chemical Communications
  • Terrorism and Political Violence
  • Animal Behaviour
  • Tetrahedron Letters
  • The Journal of Theological Studies
  • The American Economic Review
  • Foreign Affairs
  • The Astrophysical Journal
  • Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute
Nature is the most downloaded-from e-journal so far, in 2012- with 14,288 articles downloaded.

The other e-journals listed show impressive numbers of downloads during 2012, too - of between 3,000-5,000 each, to date. These figures do not include the many times articles are consulted, or read from the screen.

Many factors can influence use - the popularity of a title, local research focus, the size of research groups or classes, whether or not a title is being used for teaching, etc., but the more often a title is used, the better cost-per-use value it represents.
