400 years of Great Whiskers and Moustaches - 'Movember’ in the ODNB

To celebrate this year’s Movember, staff at the Oxford Dictionary for National Biography have searched all 58,326 biographies for some of the finest moustaches in British history.

Nearly 500 people have moustaches mentioned and memorialised in their ODNB entries.

The ODNB will tweet a daily ‘Mr Movember’, during November - someone whose moustache has gone down in British history - or at least in the pages of the ODNB.

It could be a clipped, waxed, drooping or luxurious moustache; perhaps pencil, handlebar, bristling - or even false!
