Trial e-Resource - The Works of Ben Jonson Online

Our trial of The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Ben Jonson Online is now live, until 10 April 2014.

This new database presents a complete reappraisal of this major Renaissance writer - Shakespeare's greatest contemporary - extending the 2012 print edition of Jonson’s complete works, with a large range of textual and contextual materials, which includes:

Modern Spelling Editionover 158 modernised, searchable texts with introductions and extensive commentary, presented in a way that allows individual viewing and also on-screen comparison

Old Spelling Edition - around 90 searchable old-spelling texts transcribed from the major manuscripts and early printed books from which the modern spelling edition is derived 

Life Records - an archive of nearly 100 documents - including registers of births and deaths - relating to Jonson’s life
 
Masque Archive - a collection of records - financial accounts, eyewitness testimony, ambassadors’ letters - relating to Jonson’s masques

Music Edition - 100 song settings and dances associated with Jonson’s plays, poems and masques

Textual Essays - over 80 essays, written by the contributing editors, which document the technical work behind the texts
 
Bibliography - list of more than 7,000 books and essays relating to Jonson

Performance Archive - archive of over 1,300 stage productions of Jonson's plays and their adaptations, from the earliest performances to the present 

Chronology - an interactive timeline of Jonson’s life and time, and a Blog
