New e-Resource - Caribbean Newspapers 1718-1876

  We now have access to the recently-released Caribbean Newspapers, 1718-1876 database, following a successful trial and very useful feedback.

Caribbean Newspapers, 1718-1876 is a fully-searchable, primary source collection of over 140 newspapers from 22 Caribbean islands, which provides access to more than 150 years of Caribbean and Atlantic history, culture and daily life.

Most newspapers were published in the English language, but a number of Danish, French, and Spanish language titles are included - essential for researching colonial history, the Atlantic slave trade, international commerce and relations, New World slavery, and U.S. relations with the region as far back as the early 18th century.

Eyewitness reports, editorials, legislative information, letters, poetry, advertisements, obituaries, etc., help to chronicle the development of Western society and international relations in this region. (More information)
