Jisc Historic Books becomes Historical Texts - beta version now available

One platform - over 350,000 late 15th-19th century texts from Early English Books Online (EEBO), Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) and 65,000 texts from the British Library 19th Century collection

Jisc Historic Books is being renamed Historical Texts and the beta version of the new, upgraded platform is now available. The name change represents the future plan to add new non-book content to this service.

Historical Texts provides a range of exciting new features and there will be more to come over the summer.

Not all of the data and features are available yet, as it is still in development, but please do try the new platform - comments would be much appreciated. The Historical Texts team looks forward to hearing your views on it.

At present, the beta version contains most of EEBO, most of ECCOII and around half of ECCO.

New functions include:

instant pdf downloads; full-screen displays; images and full text side by side; smooth zooming; browse feature; illustration search; image rotation, etc.

Phase 2 enhancements will include functions such as note-sharing; graphical time-lines e.g. showing all books by Shakespeare; more display options e.g. a book image side-by-side with the OCR version, etc.  A tablet version will also be available.

You can login directly from the new permanent Historical Texts address, or via a link on the Jisc Historic Books website.
