New e-Resources - The Irish Times (1859-2012) and The Weekly Irish Times (1876-1958)‎

Welcome new additions to the Library's growing collection of full-text digital newspaper archives are The Irish Times (1859-2012) and The Weekly Irish Times (1876-1958)‎.

These permanent-access archives present the history of Ireland and the world, through a unique perspective and historical context.

Both newpapers are cross-searchable with the Library's other ProQuest Historical Newspapers archives - The Guardian (1821-2003) and The Observer (1791-2003)‎; The Scotsman (1817-1950)‎; the Los Angeles Times and The Times of India (1838-2004).

This helps to providing distinct additional perspectives on key international events, such as the 1916 Easter Uprising and formation of the Republic of Ireland, the repercussions of the Irish Potato Famine, World Wars I and II, etc.  It is easy to compare news, political cartoons, and editorials about the same events in these different newspapers.

The Irish Times is internationally known as Ireland's quality daily newspaper and Irish news reports are combined with reports from foreign correspondents, business coverage, features, arts, sports, etc. Each issue contains well-informed background analysis and assessment of daily events, and diversity of debate in the daily opinion columns.

The Weekly Irish Times is available digitally for the first time.
